Hawai'i's Aaron Napoleon placed third in the Sapinus Pro Tahiti stand-up paddle surfing contest yesterday.

The semifinals and final were completed in epic 6- to 8-foot waves at Teahupoo, Tahiti.

Australian Dave Muir won the contest, and Tama Audibert of Tahiti was second.

Napoleon was the only Hawai'i surfer to reach the final.

Fellow Hawai'i surfers Ikaika Kawai and Kekoa Uemura were eliminated in the semifinals.

The event was the third of four stops on the inaugural Stand Up World Tour. The final event is scheduled for October at Ocean Beach, Calif.

OSHIRO LOSES DEBUT IN BELLATOR FIGHTING

Mark Oshiro of Pearl City lost in his debut bout with the Bellator Fighting Championships on Thursday at San Antonio.

Nik Mamalis of Wyoming defeated Oshiro via choke submission in the second round of the bantamweight (135 pounds) bout. It was scheduled for three 5-minute rounds.

The bout was televised on a delayed basis on the Fox Sports Net cable station.

Oshiro dropped to 12-3, and it was his first loss via submission. Mamalis improved to 4-3.

Oshiro is still expected to compete in Bellator's bantamweight championship tournament later this year.

BASKETBALL

RAINBOW WAHINE CAMPS IN JUNE

Rainbow Wahine basketball is bringing back its camps after a six-year absence. There are two camps, both running June 11 to 13 and both for girls and boys. Younger kids (ages 5 to 12) go from 8 a.m. to noon and older kids (13 to 18) from 1 to 5 p.m.

Cost is $125 per camper.

Camps will be led by University of Hawai'i women's head coach Dana Takahara-Dias, with her staff, current and former players, former coach Vince Goo and high school and club coaches.

Both camps will be on the UH campus.
