Fresno St. blasts 'Bows,14-5; winner-take-all for WAC baseball title tomorrow

Danny Muno hit for the cycle and Fresno State overcame an early 5-2 deficit to knock off Hawai'i, 14-5, tonight to force a winner-take-all for the Western Athletic Conference tournament title tomorrow at 9 a.m., HST, at Hohokam Park in Mesa, Ariz.

Tomorrow's winner will secure the league's automatic NCAA regional bid.

Muno led off the game with a double, hit a two-run triple in a six-run second, hit a solo home run in the third and singled in the fifth. He scored four runs, drove in three and stole third base.

Bobby Coyle drove in four with a 4-for-5 performance, a triple shy of the cyle. Brennan Gowens went 3 for 5 with four RBI, a homer shy of the cycle.

The Bulldogs had 19 hits ot UH's 12.

Matt Morse (4-5) overcame a shaky first inning, when UH scored four, going 6 1/3 innings, allowing five runs and 12 hits.

Connor Little (2-2) lasted just one-plus inning, allowing six runs, six hits and a walk for the Rainbows (32-26).

The Bulldogs (38-24) ousted San Jose State, 13-1, earlier in an elimination game called after seven innings because of the 10-run rule.

FRESNO STATE 13, SAN JOSE STATE 1

Charlie Robertson pitched a complete-game seven-inning game as Fresno State defeated San Jose State 13-1 this afternoon and advanced to play Hawai'i tonight in the Western Athletic Conference championship series at Mesa, Ariz.

Fresno State (38-24) will need to defeat Hawai'i (32-25) twice to claim its fifth-straight WAC Tournament title. The game began at 4:30 p.m. Hawai'i time.

The Rainbows, undefeated in the tournament, beat the Bulldogs 11-3 last night to advance to the championship round.

If Fresno State wins tonight, the title game will be played tomorrow.
