Bryan Clay second after first day of Hypo-Meeting decathlon

Hawai'i's Bryan Clay is in second place after the first day of the decathlon at the 36th Hypo-Meeting in Goetzis, Austria.
Clay, who has 4,450 points after the first five events, trails leader Oleksiy Kasyanov of the Ukraine by 13 points. Massimo Bertocchi of Canada is third (4317) and Trey Hardee of the United States fourth (4,304).
Clay, the 2008 Olympic gold medalist, opened with the meet record in the 100 meters in 10.35 seconds. He was seventh in his group in the long jump (7.51 meters), eight in his group in the shot put (15.38), tied for first in the high jump (2.06) and fourth in his group in the 400 meters (49.66).
The meet concludes tomorrow with the 110 hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500 meters.
Clay is a Castle High alum who was raised in Kane'ohe.
