SURFING
TEEN PRO NELSON AHINA RIPPING IT
Hawai'i legends such as Duke Kahanamoku, Eddie Aikau and Buffalo Keaulana promoted surfing on a global level. One of a handful of Native Hawaiians now pushing the sport forward is 17-year-old pro surfer Nelson Ahina. He's a state champion who had dominated the local amateur longboard scene.
Raised in Kalihi, Ahina found his calling through surfing. "It's like coming to church. You can come here and just have a good time," he said.
