Advertiser Staff

A man was killed and a woman injured in a single-car crash yesterday afternoon on the H-1 Freeway in 'Ewa.

The incident happened shortly after 6 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the H-1 just past the North/South Road onramp. Police said the driver lost control of the vehicle, which rolled over and caught fire.

A man who appeared to be in his 30s was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, and later died, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department. A woman who appeared to be in her 30s was taken to a hospital in serious condition, Cheplic said.

Police closed all eastbound lanes of the H-1 and routed traffic to North/South Road. The North/South onramp to the H-1 Freeway also was closed. All lanes were reopened about 9 p.m.
