Two more seeking Djou's former council seat

Advertiser Staff

Two more East Honolulu residents say they are seeking the temporary Honolulu City Council District 6 seat left vacant by the resignation of now-Congressman Charles Djou.

They are Hawai'i Kai Neighborhood Board Chairman Greg Knudsen and former 'Aina Haina Neighborhood Board Chairman Warner Kimo Sutton.

Knudsen and Sutton said will not run for the full four-year term in the fall election.

Several current council members have stated they intend to follow tradition and not appoint someone who is interested in running for the job in the fall.

Others interested in the temporary job, which would run through Jan. 2, include attorney Jo-Ann Adams, Wai'alae-Kahala Neighborhood Board Chairman Francis "Scotty" Anderson, attorney Jonathan Lai, former state research analyst Jeremy Low and former Djou chief of staff Lori Wingard.

The eight remaining council members are expected to make a decision on June 9. If they don't decide within 30 days of Djou's resignation on Tuesday, it would be up to the mayor to choose.
