Police on Monday said the driver of the truck and a 26-year-old male passenger, also from Kailua, Kona, abandoned the vehicle on Mahilani Drive and walked away from the scene.
Police located the men at a home in the Kona Palisades subdivision and arrested both — the driver for negligent homicide and driving under the influence, the other man for consuming or possessing intoxicating liquor while a passenger in a motor vehicle.
Both men were being held pending further investigation.
