Actress Lindsay Lohan won't be arrested when she returns to the United States, despite an arrest warrant issued yesterday by a Beverly Hills judge.
Steve Whitmore, a Sheriff's Department spokesman, said Lohan's representatives have posted 10 percent of the $100,000 bond, and so the arrest warrant was recalled.
The warrant was issued for Lohan after she failed to appear in court because she is still in France. Lohan, through her attorney, claimed to be stuck in Cannes after her passport was stolen and skipped the mandatory appearance for a probation hearing for a 2007 intoxication conviction.
Lohan, 23, didn't seem too worried yesterday morning. She was partying on a yacht in the French Riviera until the wee hours, says celebrity photographer Phil Ramey, who posted the photos on his website tinselclown.com.
ANGELOU BEMOANS POLITICAL ATMOSPHERE
Poet Maya Angelou celebrated a belated 82nd birthday yesterday in North Carolina with a few celebrity friends and a few choice words about political divisiveness in the United States.
Singers Naomi Judd and Martina McBride sang "Happy Birthday to You" to Angelou, who sat at a table in her newly refurbished backyard garden in Winston-Salem, while hip-hop artist and actor Common improvised a song to honor her.
Despite her generally upbeat attitude, Angelou said she finds the state of national politics to be tragic.
"I mean, this is our country," she said. "This is a country of Republicans, of Democrats and of independents. And we are going to work together to make it better. Or we will not. And we will make it worse. And that's dumb."
PEE-WEE'S NEXT BIG ADVENTURE: BROADWAY
Following his big comeback earlier this year at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles, Pee-wee Herman (aka Paul Reubens) will be riding his red bicycle all the way to Broadway, where he will open his new show at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre for a six-week run starting Oct. 26.
The comic man-child will star in "The Pee-wee Herman Show," a revised version of his hit '80s stage show. The production, which opened in L.A. in January to much fan adulation, featured familiar characters from the original play plus other characters from Pee-wee's popular CBS television show.
UPTEMPO 'BOYS' REMAKE DUE MAY 29
Connie Francis' classic song "Where the Boys Are" is getting a Gaga-esque update.
Francis says the producer behind some of Lady Gaga's hits and also Destiny's Child has produced a dance remix of the torch song.
"We're going to release it on the 29th of May, which is the 50th anniversary of 'Where the Boys Are,' " she said recently.
The 71-year-old singer said she hadn't heard the song, but added: "I want to hear it any way it sells."
