DAVIE, Fla. — Brandon Marshall milled about the Miami Dolphins practice field, donning an orange cap and sneakers instead of a helmet and cleats.

He'll be doing a lot more of that over the next few weeks.

Marshall is recovering from surgery, the details of which neither he nor Dolphins coach Tony Sparano would disclose yesterday, when most of the wide receiver's new teammates took part in one of Miami's organized team activity days, or offseason practice. Sparano indicated Marshall would be back for training camp.

"We don't play a game today," Sparano said. "We play a game down the road somewhere. ... No disappointment at all. He's been here for eight weeks now, throwing and catching and doing all the things necessary. I mean, he was throwing and catching the day that the procedure was done. So, not real concerned about it."

Marshall shook off questions about his on-field absence.

"It's definitely frustrating, but you know, some things you can't control," said Marshall, who didn't appear to be wearing any braces or show any other obvious sign of injury. "In my past, I learned that, not to worry myself and hold my head down when I can't control it. I'm just going to do the best I can with the mental reps and prepare myself that way."

Miami sent the Broncos a pair of second-round draft picks for Marshall, then quickly got the receiver to agree on a contract extension. Marshall had 101 catches for 1,120 yards last season for Denver, including an NFL-record 21 catches for 200 yards against Indianapolis in December.

Bears: Restricted free agent safety Danieal Manning has signed his one-year tender offer from the Chicago Bears.

Manning has started 40 of 61 games played during his four seasons with the Bears. He has six interceptions, six forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

Jaguars: New Orleans agreed to terms on a one-year contract with free agent linebacker Clint Ingram. General manager Mickey Loomis announced the deal, but didn't provide details.

Ingram, a 2006 third-round draft pick by Jacksonville, has played his entire four-year career with the Jaguars.

Seahawks: Seattle signed former Buffalo Bills starting quarterback J.P. Losman and waived third-string quarterback Mike Teel.

Agent Gary Wichard told The Associated Press in an e-mail Tuesday night it's a $630,000, one-year contract, which the 29-year-old Losman signed yesterday. He would back up Matt Hasselbeck and Charlie Whitehurst.

Texans: Houston receiver Andre Johnson plans to rejoin the team after missing the first three voluntary practices over a contract dispute.

Johnson's uncle and agent Andre Melton told The Associated Press that Johnson will join the team at practice today after a meeting yesterday with the team's front office that went "extremely well."

Johnson has five years left on an eight-year contract worth $60 million that included $15 million in guarantees.

Vikings: Minnesota coach Brad Childress says he doesn't have an update from Brett Favre about his playing status for next season, or a possible surgery on his injured left ankle.

Childress was asked for the latest on Favre following practice yesterday. The Minnesota coach said he hasn't spoken with the 40-year-old quarterback recently.
