Preps: Texas school forfeits 15 wins, playoff over 22-year-old impostor

Associated Press

ODESSA, Texas — Odessa's Permian High School has forfeited its 15 basketball wins and Class 5A state playoff spot from this season. That's after discovering that a player thought to be a 16-year-old sophomore turned out to be an ineligible 22-year-old.

The Odessa American reports on its website that Permian and Ector County school district officials have reported the self-imposed sanctions to the District 2-5A Executive Committee. The committee voted Thursday to refer the matter to the State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League for further review.

The player known to school officials as 16-year-old Haitian immigrant Jerry Joseph turned out to be 22-year-old South Floridian Guerdwich Montimer. He remained in Ector County's jail in Odessa charged with felony sexual assault and false documentation.
