HPU softball hosts NCAA Super Regional tomorrow

The Hawai'i Pacific softball team continues its postseason run at home this weekend.

The Sea Warriors (44-7) host a NCAA Division II Super Regional starting tomorrow against Chico State (32-19) at their Howard A. Okita Field in Kane'ohe.

HPU advanced after winning a West Sub-Regional over the weekend at home. Chico State won the other West Sub-Regional that was played at Sonoma State. Both teams meet tomorrow at 2 p.m. The teams will play at 11 a.m. Saturday and again at 1:30 p.m. if necessary.

Sherise Musquiz pitched all four games for HPU over the weekend. She is 28-2 on the season with an 1.15 ERA. She also hit her first homer of the season on Sunday. Maile Kim is batting .372, Nicole Morrow is batting .365 and Ciera Senas .346 for the Sea Warriors.

Chico State went unbeaten at its Sub-Regional and outscored its opponents 16-7 in three games. Charlotte Honicano is batting .370 and Christine Johnson is batting .355 for the Wildcats. Kacie McCarthy is 16-10 in the pitching circle with an 1.92 ERA and Jessica McDermott is 14-7 with a 2.34 ERA.

It will be the first meeting between the teams this season. All games will be carried live on the radio on AM 1500.

The winners of the eight Super Regionals advance to the finals, May 27 to 31 in St. Joseph, Mo.
