A man died after he was pulled from waters off Waikiki Monday afternoon.
The man, who appeared to be in his 60s, was seen in distress near a surf spot known as "Public's" at about 3:15 p.m., said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department. Surfers in the area notified lifeguards, who brought the man to shore and began to perform CPR.
City paramedics treated the man and transported him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, Cheplic said. The cause of the man's death is under investigation.
Cheplic said surf conditions were "minimal" and the ocean was "fairly calm" at the time of the incident
