KANE'OHE — The Hawai'i Pacific softball team rallied today to win the NCAA Division II West Regional at its Howard A. Okita Field.
Top-seeded HPU beat No. 8 Central Washington, 1-0, in the tournament final this afternoon and will host a Super Regional this week. Nicole Morrow's RBI single scored Casey Sugihara in the top of the first inning and Sherise Musquiz threw a six-hitter with four strikeouts.
Central Washington defeated HPU earlier in the day, 3-2 in nine innings, to force the take-all game in the double-elimination tournament. Musquiz threw all nine innings and gave up nine hits. She also drove in both runs for the Sea Warriors.
The Sea Warriors (44-7) will meet No. 6 Chico State in the Super Regional Friday and Saturday in the best-of-three series.
Chico State (32-19) won the other West Regional that ended today at Sonoma State.
Central Washington ends the season 40-15. Hawai'i-Hilo was eliminated from the regional yesterday.
