The sixth annual Hawai'i Kai Dog Walk offers pooches and their owners a fun 2.3-mile stroll or a shorter "mini route" tailored for smaller and older pooches.

The event is a fundraiser for Hui 'Ilio Hawai'i, the nonprofit that helped build the Hawai'i Kai Dog Park through a public-private partnership with the Department of Parks and Recreation.

Pre-registration for the June 6 event wraps up Saturday. For a $20 fee, pre-registered participants get a dog walk T-shirt, a goodie bag and chance at winning a door prize. Walk-in registration is the same fee, with goodies provided while supplies last.

Event check-in starts at 6:30 a.m., and paws hit the pavement at 7:30 a.m. at the Hawai'i Kai Park and Ride. Check out booths, exhibits and activities in the dog park. Doggie pools and dog-sicles will be available to help cool off after the walk. Registration forms can be downloaded at www.hui-ilio.org.
