Forward Mari Miyashiro of Mililani High School has been named Gatorade Hawaii Girls Soccer Player of the Year, it was announced today.

Miyashiro, The Honolulu Advertiser Player of the Year and the Oahu Interscholastic Association Red West Player of the Year, led the Trojans (17-1) to the Division I state championship game this past season, recording 16 goals and 10 assists.

Punahou defeated Mililani, 2-1, in the state final.

Miyashiro concluded her high school career with 55 goals and 41 assists. She has maintained a 3.39 GPA in the classroom. A member of her school's Key Club, she has volunteered locally as a youth soccer coach and on behalf of the Hawaii United Okinawan Association.

The award recognizes athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, according to a Gatorade press release.

Miyashiro is a finalist for the Gatorade National Girls Soccer Player of the Year award to be announced last this month.

Miyashiro has signed a National Letter of Intent to play soccer on scholarship at Utah State.

The selection process is administered by ESPN RISE and the Gatorade high school sports leadership team, which work with top sport-specific experts and a media advisory board of accomplished, veteran prep sports journalists to determine the state winners in each sport.
