The team of Jimmy Austin and Manny Kulukulualani won the eighth annual Kaua'i World Challenge paddling race in record time on Saturday.

Austin and Kulukulualani combined to complete the 34-mile course in 3 hours, 27 minutes, 1 second, which beat the previous course record by nearly eight minutes.

The course traversed the southeast coast of Kaua'i, starting at Wailua Beach and finishing at Salt Pond Beach Park.

The race featured one-person canoes (also known as OC-1), but each team could have two paddlers. The course was divided into four legs, and each paddler had to complete two legs.

Austin and Kulukulualani are both from Honolulu and are sponsored by Kamanu Composites.

The Australian team of Travis Grant and Mike Murray placed second with a time of 3:32:09, and O'ahu paddlers Simeon Ke-Paloma and Tapa Worthington were third in 3:37:06.

Kristin Foster of Kaua'i and Jane McKee of Kailua formed the top female team. They finished with a time of 4:17:27. Noelani Auger and Andrea Moller placed second in 4:21:02.

The husband-wife team of Mark Frazier and Alana Goo-Frazier placed first in the mixed division in 4:06:14.

More than 70 teams participated in the race.
