Police impersonator leads UH-Manoa to send out alert

Advertiser Staff

The University of Hawai'i at Mānoa yesterday issued an alert about a man seen posing as a police officer on campus over the weekend.

UH campus security said the man falsely claimed to be a Honolulu police officer at the Maile Way entrance gate. He was wearing a jacket with the word "Police" on it and a fake ID badge.

He was driving a white Ford pickup truck, UH said.

UH described him as a Polynesian male in his late 20s, 6 feet tall and 180 pounds, with spiky black hair and Hawaiian-style tattoos on both forearms. He was wearing a black T-shirt, blue jeans and athletic shoes.

Anyone who sees a person matching this description should not approach him, but instead call HPD at 911 and Campus Security at 956-6911.
