State, Coast Guard to work together on recreational boating

Associated Press

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources and the U.S. Coast Guard have agreed to work together to oversee recreational boating safety programs.

The framework and procedures of the relationship are spelled out in a memorandum of agreement signed last week by DLNR Chairwoman Laura Thielen and Rear Adm. Manson Brown.

The agreement covers the mutual enforcement of laws relating to recreational boating safety in waters within the concurrent jurisdictions of the state and the federal government.

It also covers the exchange of information on law enforcement, boating safety, and search and rescue efforts in order to enhance success.
