New hotel Rumor to open near Strip

By Anthony Curtis

Yet another new hotel has been announced for near the Las Vegas Strip. A non-casino hotel called Rumor will open this summer on Harmon Avenue, east of the Strip in the location that was formerly the St Tropez.

It will have 150 suites, many with patios or private balconies, an "ultra-lounge welcome" with concierge-style check-in, and a "cool pool." It's the latest from the Siegel group, which is building a brand of Boutique Chic Retreats that includes the Artisan Hotel at Sahara and the I-15 freeway and downtown's Gold Spike.

GREEK GONE: In a quiet move, the Greek Isles changed its name to the Clarion Hotel and Casino last month. The hotel/all-slots casino is between the north Strip and the Convention Center.

HARRAH'S BUMPS: Apparently that $29.99 deal for a day of all-you-can-eat buffets throughout the Harrah's system was a tad too generous. The price has been bumped to $39.99, but it's only a $5 hike if you show a Harrah's Total Rewards card. The deal allows unlimited visits over a 24-hour period to the buffets at Harrah's, Flamingo, Imperial Palace, Paris, Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood and Rio (Carnival World only).

CROWN COMING: Nightlife impresario Darin Feinstein, who purchased the famous Viper Room from Johnny Depp, will open the new Crown Theater and Crown Nightclub at the Rio this summer in the space where Prince performed.

The 900-capacity venue will feature a mix of live concerts and themed nightlife events.

Q. I saw people jumping off the Stratosphere!

A. The long-awaited SkyJump Las Vegas attraction opened last week at the Strat. It's an 855-foot "controlled freefall" off the top of the tower, with jumpers tethered by control wires.

The jump costs $100 (or $149 for two).
