A North Shore woman was killed early yesterday when she apparently lost control of her vehicle at a notoriously dangerous section of Kaukonahua Road near Wilikina Drive.
Another woman was injured in the accident.
According to police, the two women were in a Ford Explorer heading north at 2:36 a.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle at the S-turn of the road.
The vehicle crossed the roadway, struck a guardrail on the right, then flipped over before coming to a stop.
The driver, a 28-year-old Waialua woman, was ejected from the vehicle. She died at the crash site.
The passenger, a 21-year-old woman from 'Aiea, was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in fair condition.
Police said the passenger was wearing a seatbelt, but the driver was not.
No other vehicles were involved.
The road was closed following the accident and reopened around 7 a.m.
Police said speed appeared to be a factor. It is not yet known whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
