Pearl City, Radford earn top seeds for state baseball tournaments

Pearl City and Radford earned the top seeds for this week's Wally Yonamine Foundation/HHSAA State Baseball Championships.

Pearl City (15-0), the O'ahu Interscholastic Association champion, is seeded first in the Division I tournament being held at Maui's Iron Maehara Stadium. Saint Louis (16-2), the Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion, is seeded second. Baldwin (13-1), the Maui Interscholastic League champion, is third and Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion Hilo (12-0) is fourth.

All seeded teams receive a first-round bye in the 12-team tournament, which starts on Wednesday with first-round matches. Six-time state champion Punahou, the ILH's third-place team, opens the tournament against Mililani on Wednesday. The winner plays Pearl City.

The championship game is Saturday at 7 p.m. OC16 will televise the semifinals and championship game.

In the eight-team Division II tournament being played at Hans L'Orange in Waipahu, OIA champion Radford (12-0) is seeded first and starts play in Thursday's quarterfinals against Hawai'i Prep (10-3). MIL champion St. Anthony (8-1) is No. 2 and plays Konawaena (9-4). Kaua'i Interscholastic Federation champion Waimea (10-2) is third and plays Waipahu (10-3). Defending state champion Maryknoll (2-14) is fourth and opens against BIIF champion Kamehameha-Hawai'i (7-5).

The championship game is Saturday at 7 p.m.
