Hawaii County police are looking into the disappearance of a 22-year-old New Jersey man in the area of Kehena Beach in lower Puna.

Police say Joel Elliott Collins was last contacted by family members March 25, when he told them he was at a beach park.

Police say Collins' backpack was found on the side of a road near Kehena Beach Park on Monday and turned in as found property.

Police are asking anyone with information about Collins to call the department's non-emergency line at 935-3311.
