A high-wind advisory remains in effect for all islands until 6 tomorrow night.

The National Weather Service says strong high pressure north of Hawaii is driving gusty trade winds.

Sustained trades near 30 mph are forecast, with gusts as high as 50 mph.

The weather service says strong, gusty trades will continue for at least the next week. The winds are expected to diminish Thursday and Friday but regain strength and become quite strong over the weekend.

Meanwhile, a high-surf advisory is in effect for north- and west-facing shores on Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai, and north-facing shores on Maui and the Big Island.

Waves between 18 and 22 feet are forecast for north-facing shores.

The winds and waves are also creating hazardous conditions for mariners. A small-craft advisory has been posted for coastal waters within 40 nautical miles and a gale warning is in effect for the Pailolo and Alenuihaha channels.
