State and county buildings will fly the Hawaii state flag at half-staff on Sunday in honor of the late Cec Heftel, Gov. Linda Lingle’s office said.

Heftel, a former Hawaii congressman and media executive, passed away last month. A memorial service honoring Heftel’s life will be held Sunday at Hawaii Theatre.
Heftel represented Hawaii’s 1st Congressional District from 1976 to 1986 and owned KGMB radio and TV in the 1960s and ’70s. He also served on the state Board of Education from 2004 to 2008.
