Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu honors mentors

Advertiser Staff

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu announced its 2010 Bigs of the Year in surprise events held at the honorees’ work places. The annual award is presented to an exceptional Big Brother and Big Sister who demonstrate commitment and dedication to the children of Hawaii by being outstanding mentors.

Big Sister of the Year is Amanda Weston, an attorney with the law office of John H. Price. Weston has been a mentor to Little Sister Jasmine, 18, for the past eight years. Big Brother of the Year is Solomon Kauinui, an engineer at Hawaiian Telcom. Kauinui and Little Brother Cody, 15, have been together for seven years.
“We wanted to truly show our appreciation and honor our Bigs of the Year in the presence of people who mean the most to them — their family, friends, colleagues and of course, their ‘Little,’” said the organization’s CEO and president, Dennis Brown, in a press release.
