Oahu flood advisory extended until 6:30 p.m.

Advertiser Staff

The flood advisory for Oahu has been extended until 6:30 p.m. today.

Around 3:30 p.m., radar showed that the heavy rain over West Oahu shifted to Central and southeast Oahu. The National Weather Service in Honolulu said the rain should diminish by sunset, but will cause minor road flooding during the afternoon commute.
Locations in the advisory now include, but are not limited to, Honolulu, Mililani, Pearl City, Waipio, Hawaii Kai, Haleiwa and Wahiawa.
Areas that were under the advisory earlier today included Waianae, Lualualei, Nanakuli, Makaha and Makua Valley.
The weather service warns people to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
Drivers are also warned about ponding and reduced visibility and poor braking because of the rain and runoff.
