Bail of $101,000, set for fugitive, is a Kauai record

Advertiser Staff

For the first time ever, one of the Kaua'i Police Department's most wanted has bail in excess of $100,000, the Garden Island newspaper reported.

Total bail for Micah Shawn Toshihiro Otani is $101,000 after he did not show up for his Jan. 28 scheduled sentencing on a second-degree theft charge.

Fifth Circuit Judge Randal Valenciano ordered the bench warrant for $101,000 for contempt of court.

Otani was found not guilty of fourth-degree theft and second-degree identity theft in the case dating back to 2006.

Otani, 23, is 5-feet-10, weighs 225 pounds, has brown hair and brown eyes, and has a last known address in Puhi.
