Advertiser Staff

Chelsea Bega of Kamehameha has been chosen as the Most Valuable Player on the 2010 All-State Cheerleading Team, picked by a selection committee comprised of expert panels in cheer and dance, stunts and baskets, and tumbling and jumps.

Other members of the first team are flyers Brianna Burnett, Shelby Wong and Emily Luke of Kamehameha, and Malyssa Barbasa of Radford; bases Momi Morgan and Shawna Uehara of Kamehameha, and Rachel Gines of Radford; and back spots LeShae Henderson and Kaylee-Jane Arakaki of Kamehameha, Hunter Kea of Radford and Nelson Acosta of Waimea.

The team was selected to recognize the top athletes in the sport of cheerleading based on skills, performance execution and value to their team.

This year, 82 athletes were nominated and ranked by their coaches. With the assistance of all leagues, this was the first year all nominees went through the same live tryout process on each island. The Neighbor Island nominees were video recorded and reviewed by the selection committee.

The first and second teams consist of four flyers, four bases, and four back spots. Athletes who received honorable mention were the next highest scorers.
