Hamajang, known best as the quirky house band for Hawai'i Public Radio’s “Aloha Shorts” program, is moving center stage at the Atherton Studio tonight.

Hamajang — from left, Derek Ferrar, Yash Wichmann-Walczak, Charley Meyers and Mark Scrufari — play an assortment of acoustic instruments, with çukulele and steel guitar accompanied by accordion, spoons, kazoo and washtub bass. With influences ranging from Irving Berlin to Poi Dog Pondering, the band offers a mix of blues, folk, country, swing, hapa-haole Hawaiian and other rootsy styles while following the motto SNAFK, or “situation normal, all funny kine.”
