Advertiser Staff

A 46-year-old man who died after being taken into custody Sunday night has been identified as George Kuriyama Jr. of Waipahu.

The city medical examiner’s office has deferred the cause of Kuriyama’s death. It is classified as an unattended death pending the outcome of an investigation.
Kuriyama was arrested Sunday on suspicion of violating a 24-hour temporary restraining order. After his arrest, police noticed that he was having trouble breathing and he was taken to Hawaii Medical Center West.
While at the hospital, Kuriyama’s condition worsened and he died at about 7:15 p.m., police said.
