Tree-planting will close left lanes on Kailua Road

Advertiser Staff

The state will plant 75 trees on Kailua Road and Kalaniana'ole Highway beginning today as part of a 2006 rockslide project that required the removal of landscaping at the entrance to Kailua.

The project for the medians of the two roads is a collaboration between the state Department of Transportation and the Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle, which is providing 29 native loulu palms.

Crews will also plant 14 coconut palms, 15 kukui-nut trees, 13 rainbow shower trees and four pink tecoma trees.

Work on the $367,000 project will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. today through Friday.

The left lanes in both directions will be closed on Kailua Road from Kalaniana'ole to Hāmākua Drive.
