Fire damages home in Kailua

Advertiser Staff

Honolulu Fire Department units extinguished a fire that caused an estimated $400,000 in damage to a Kailua home Saturday night.

Five engines, two ladder companies and a battalion chief responded to a 7 p.m. call.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control by 7:25 p.m. and extinguished it around 8:30 p.m., according to HFD spokesman Capt. Earle Kealoha.
Four people lived in the home but none were home at the time of the fire, Kealoha said. The family dog has not yet been located.
The American Red Cross is assisting the family.
Kealoha said total damage to the structure and its contents could be higher than the initial estimate.
