The Pacific Roller Derby season kicks off today with a 5 p.m. bout at Sand Island Coast Guard Base.

Thanks in part to more exposure, including the film "Whip It," O'ahu's local league has picked up three new teams: The Carnevils, the Villains and Maui's Crazy 808s.

Tickets for Pacific Roller Derby's season opener are available at www.pacificrollerderby.com (RSVP after purchase to enter the Coast Guard base). General admission is $7, and keiki 12 and under get in free. Bring a beach chair, because the event takes place at the base's tennis courts at 400 Sand Island Parkway.
