The reaction of Barry Whitfield, of Diamond Head, shows just how cold the water was today at Special Olympics Hawai'i's annual Polar Plunge fundraiser at Restaurant Row in Kaka'ako. How cold was it? In the 30s.

A number of brave souls dared to take Special Olympics Hawaii's Polar Plunge today to raise money for charity.

It was the second annual event featuring a tank of ice-cold water (billed as 37 degrees) and people willing to take the dip for a cause.
Similar events are being held across the Northeast and MIdwest.
Last year, more than $20,000 was raised for Special Olympics through the polar plunges.
