Advertiser Staff

A multi-agency search for a missing boater ended this afternoon when Marine Corps Base Hawaii lifeguards recovered the man’s body near Kaneohe’s Pyramid Rock.

The missing mariner’s body was located at approximately 1:45 p.m. The search for the man that began yesterday and ran into last night, continued this morning.
On Friday Coast Guard Sector Honolulu search and rescue controllers got the distress report of a man on a life raft off Mokapu peninsula in Kaneohe.
The missing man was thought to be about 30 and wearing a white shirt as well as a personal flotation device. That description generally matched the man pulled from the water today.
Rescue crews from the U.S. Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy and Honolulu Fire Department resumed the search today after Coast Guard helicopter crews searched for the missing mariner throughout last night.
HFD rescue crews and the U.S. Navy's Waterfront Operations unit also searched before losing visibility at sunset last night. Honolulu Fire had a rescue water craft, and rescue divers searching the area when the body was spotted. Federal Fire Department was also involved in the joint search efforts.
The victim’s identity is being withheld by authorities pending notification of the man’s family, authorities said.
