Roots clog sewage pipe, cause 3,000-gallon spill
About 3,000 gallons of raw sewage have spilled in 'Aiea Heights, the city Department of Environmental Services said yesterday.
City crews noticed the spill yesterday morning during scheduled maintenance in the area.
Tree roots clogged an 8-inch pipe on 'Īnea Place and sewage spilled out of a manhole and down a ridge. The city said there is no public access to the ridge and that the sewage did not reach any body of water.
The state Health Department was notified and the area has been cleaned, the city said.
