In this time of new artists posting YouTube videos that go viral and becoming overnight sensations (Owl City and "Fireflies" comes to mind), it's easy to forget just how good established artists like Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs really are and how their songs have withstood the test of time.

A reminder comes next week when the "Two Unmistakable Voices" tour hits the Waikíkí Shell Thursday night.They also play March 12 at the Maui Arts &Cultural Center.

McDonald is a five-time Grammy Award winner with hits like "Yah Mo B There" and "Baby Girl," but he is best known as the voice of The Doobie Brothers, where he belted out hits like "Takin' It to the Streets," "Minute by Minute," and "What a Fool Believes," which he co-wrote with Kenny Loggins.

His most recent album, "Soul Speak," includes three original songs as a selection of favorites such as Van Morrison's "Into the Mystic" and Ray Charles' "You Don't Know Me."

Scaggs kick started his career as a member of the Steve Miller Band, but rose to prominence in the 1970s when he released "Silk Degrees," which sold more than 4 million copies. The album featured hits like "Georgia," "What Can I Say," "Lido Shuffle," and "Lowdown," which won a Grammy.
