Impact of special Hawaii election to be explored at legislative hearing

Associated Press

HONOLULU — A state House committee is scheduled to focus on the financial, logistical and procedural impacts of a special congressional election that is set for May 22.

The all-mail election was called after U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie resigned last Sunday in order to focus on his campaign for the Democratic nomination for governor.
The House Committee on Legislative Management will look into the impacts at its hearing today at 2:15 p.m. at the state Capitol.
Chief Elections Officer Scott Nago is expected to participate.
Expected to vie for the seat are Republican Honolulu City Councilman Charles Djou and Democrats Colleen Hanabusa, president of the state Senate, and Ed Case, a former congressman.
