Desk sergeant nearly stabbed at Wahiawa Police Station

Advertiser Staff

A 63-year-old man who was being held in the Wahiawa Police Station cellblock got himself in deeper trouble Tuesday night when he allegedly lunged at a police officer with what turned out to be a shard of Plexiglas in his hand.

Police said the man was being held on another matter when officers noticed he appeared to be holding something in his hand.
They said officers opened the door to the cell about 6:30 p.m. to address the situation and saw that he was holding what looked like a sharp object.
Police said the man was ordered to drop whatever was in his hands but lunged instead at the desk sergeant who managed to evade being attacked.
Officers managed to subdue the man and arrest him on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening.
A subsequent inspection of the cell showed the man had broken off a portion of a Plexiglas window which he tried to use as a weapon, police said.
