HPU-BYUH men's hoops showdown to be played Monday

Advertiser Staff

The Hawaii Pacific University vs. Brigham Young-Hawaii men's basketball showdown that was postponed Saturday because of the tsunami warning will be played Monday at Blaisdell Arena.

The NCAA has granted the Pacific West Conference an extension to complete its men's and women's basketball seasons after last Saturday's games were postponed.

HPU's men are 19-5, 11-2 in the conference while BYUH is 16-5, 10-2. Both trail first-place Dixie State (18-5, 12-2).

The game will be played at about 7:30 p.m., following a game between HPU's women (16-5, 12-1) vs. BYUH (9-13, 5-7). The HPU women are in first place in the PacWest and battling for their first conference championship and inaugural berth in the NCAA II Championship tournament.

Also on Monday Chaminade will go to Hilo to take on Hawai'i Hilo at 5:30 p.m. for the women and 7:30 p.m. for the men.

The NCAA Division II men's and women's tournament announcements for Division II are scheduled for Sunday, March 7, with conference and teams mandated to complete their seasons by that date. However, the extraordinary circumstances surrounding Feb. 27 made it necessary for the PacWest to request the extension.
