Alaska visitor dies at Hanalei Beach

Advertiser Staff

A 70-year-old visitor from Alaska died Sunday on Kauai after he was pulled from the water at Hanalei Beach.

The Garden Island newspaper identified the man as Frank Palmer of Juneau.
According to a preliminary report, Palmer was wading in the water about 20 feet from shore at around 11:50 a.m. when a possible medical condition caused him to fall in.
Plamer’s grandson had turned away for a few minutes to get a bodyboard and by the time he reached his grandfather, saw him face down in the water.
Lifeguards brought Palmer to shore to perform CPR until firefighters from the Hanalei station arrived, where they took over CPR before turning him over to medics.
Medics pronounced Palmer dead at the scene.
