Big Island police say alleged drug dealer recorded transactions

The fallout from a drug bust last Saturday in Waikoloa could affect far more than the five people arrested.

Police say William Lee Moore, former owner of Sharky's restaurant and bar in Kailua, Kona, taped drug deals using a video surveillance system that was confiscated along with two computers and three external hard drives.

Lt. Miles Chong said a confidential informant told police how Moore captured and stored the videos and images.

Chong said police are awaiting court approval to analyze the computers and hard drives.

Police say they learned about the alleged drug operation two years ago and were recently able to make a purchase from the 55-year-old Moore using the informant.

The informant allegedly observed Moore selling crystal meth, or "ice," in his Waikoloa home on several occasions to different individuals.

During their search of Moore's home, police reportedly confiscated 15.5 grams of crystal methamphetamine packaged for distribution, a dozen marijuana plants, 1 pound of processed marijuana and residual amounts of cocaine. Police also reportedly found an array of prescription painkillers, a .25 caliber pistol loaded with six cartridges, and a 10-round magazine.

Chong said officers did not find evidence crystal meth was manufactured inside the home.

Police arrested four other people at the home, Michelle Moore, 25; Samantha Moore, 21; Keokalani Joaquin, 29; and Kimberly DeThomas, 26. They were each charged with various drug-related offenses.

William Moore was charged with three counts of promoting dangerous drugs, three counts of possessing drug paraphernalia, two counts of promoting detrimental drugs, and one count each of promoting a harmful drug, failure to obtain a firearm permit and methamphetamine trafficking.
