88-year-old woman killed in 2-car crash on Route 19

A 88-year-old woman from Pa'auilo died Wednesday of injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash on May 19 in Kalōpā.

Police identified the victim as Beatrice Yago.

Police said Yago was a passenger in a Toyota multi-purpose vehicle driven by an 89-year-old Pa'auilo man. The man was driving west on Route 19 when he made a left turn into the path of an oncoming Ford two-door sedan shortly before 6:30 p.m. on May 19. Police said the Toyota failed to yield the right of way.

Yago was taken to the North Hawai'i Community Hospital. She died Wednesday at 3:52 p.m.

The driver of the Toyota was not injured. They both were wearing their seatbelts.

The driver of the Ford, a 32-year-old woman from Pāhoa, and her passengers were not injured.
