The best road effort of the season for the University of Hawai‘i men's basketball team was not enough to produce a win tonight.

Nevada defeated the Rainbow Warriors, 66-60, in a Western Athletic Conference game at the Lawlor Events Center in Reno, Nev.

It was the first time in five road games this season that the 'Bows did not lose by double-digits.

Still, Hawai‘i dropped to 9-13 overall with its fourth consecutive loss. More pressing, the ‘Bows are now tied for last place in the nine-team WAC at 2-7.

Boise State, which had been one game behind the 'Bows in the standings prior to tonight, defeated Fresno State to move into a tie with Hawai‘i.

Nevada improved to 13-8 overall and 5-3 in the WAC. The Wolf Pack is now an amazing 13-0 against Hawai‘i in games played in Reno.

Roderick Flemings had 17 points and eight rebounds to lead the Hawai‘i effort. Brandon Adams added 13 points and nine rebounds.

The ’Bows matched the Wolf Pack throughout the game, but free throws ultimately proved costly. Nevada finished 14 of 18 (77.8 percent) from the line, while Hawai‘i finished 8 of 17 (47.1 percent).

The 'Bows trailed by as many as 13 in the second half, but rallied to tie the game at 56 with less than two minutes remaining.

Nevada got the win by converting 10 of 10 free throws in the final 1:43. In that same span, Hawai‘i went 4 of 8 from the free-throw line.

Nevada raced to a 10-0 lead to open the game, and led by as many as 12 in the first half.

But Hawai‘i closed the half with a 12-0 run to tie the score at 28 at intermission. Flemings scored five points during the surge.

Hawai‘i scored the first basket of the second half to take a 30-28, but it would be short-lived.

Nevada responded with a 12-2 run to take a 40-32 lead. The Wolf Pack increased the lead to as many as 13, but the ¹Bows refused to fold.

Hawai‘i tied the score at 56 on a layup by Flemings with 1:57 remaining to make it exciting down the stretch.

Luke Babbitt led the Wolf Pack with 20 points and nine rebounds.

Hawai‘i played the final minutes of the game without point guard and team captain Hiram Thompson, who left with an apparent shoulder injury. He finished with 10 points and four assists.

The ‘Bows are scheduled to return to Honolulu today. They will host Fresno State in a WAC game on Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
