Volunteer to help count humpback whales for a day

The Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary will use volunteers to count whales from shoreline locations on O'ahu, Kaua'i and the Big Island this Saturday, and on Feb. 27 and March 27.

The counts are from 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Volunteers may sign up online at www.sanctuaryoceancount.org or by calling: on O'ahu, 397-2651, ext. 253, or 1-888-55-WHALE, ext. 253; on the Big Island, 1-888-55-WHALE, ext. 253; on Kaua'i, 246-2860.

Also on Feb. 27, the Pacific Whale Foundation will hold a whale count on Maui. To assist in that count, e-mail researchdirector@pacificwhale.org.
