Two men arrested in connection with the brutal beating early Thursday morning of an 85-year-old Wai'alae Nui woman and her caregiver made their initial appearance in District Court yesterday morning.

Zachary T. Robinson, 19, and Cody Mikami, 21, were in police custody Thursday, less than nine hours after the 3:30 a.m. beatings in the 'Āina Koa-Wai'alae Nui area that left the victims in critical condition.

Robinson and Mikami were charged with one count each of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of attempted second-degree murder, and one count of first-degree robbery.

Their bail was set at $1 million each. Both men were listed as having no local address.

The two were returned to O'ahu Community Correctional Center and will be the subject of a preliminary hearing later this week unless they are indicted first.

The attack happened early Thursday on Halekoa Drive. Mary Lee Koskinen, 85, and her caregiver, Matthew Edmondson, 40, were found severely beaten in their home.

Police later said they found dangerous drugs in the home and that the crime was not a random attack.
