Dante Carpenter, a former Big Island mayor and former trustee of the state Office of Hawaiian Affairs, was chosen yesterday as interim chairman of the Democratic Party of Hawaii.
The party’s state central committee selected Carpenter to serve as interim chairman until the party’s state convention in May, when a new chairman will be elected.
Brian Schatz stepped down as chairman to campaign in the Democratic primary for lieutenant governor.
