In “Honk! Jr.,” the traditional ugly duckling story gets a musical makeover.
In this version, performed twice today by students from Hongwanji Mission School, the swan born into a duck family feels belittled and mistreated by his family and farm friends — who call him Ugly — and is befriended by a sly cat who isn’t necessarily looking out for Ugly’s interests.

You can find out what adventure ensues at 4 or 7:30 p.m. at the Honpa Hongwanji Social Hall, 1727 Pali Highway. Tickets are $10 general, $5 for students under 14, and will be available at the door.
