Darrel David Wright Jr., 49, was charged with murder in the second degree Saturday in connection with a Dec. 16 attack on his 85-year-old grandmother.

She died at 3:13 p.m. Saturday. As a result, charges against Wright, who had been charged with attempted murder in the second degree, were upgraded.
Wright, of çAiea Heights, had called police himself to report the Dec. 16 attack.
Wright remains in police custody with bail set at $500,000.
