Young love rekindled in new drama

By Jeff Chung

New romance melodrama "Will It Snow for Christmas?" will be starting next week, taking over the 7:45 to 9 p.m. time slot on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The series replaces "He's Beautiful," which just ended this week. The new drama, produced by Seoul Broadcasting System, has 16 episodes, which means it will run for eight weeks.

"Will It Snow for Christmas?" is a story of a young love between a boy from a troubled family and a girl whose father is a famous Oriental medicine doctor. While still youths, they don't face many obstacles and their love is portrayed as pure and innocent. But, as typical in most dramas, they are separated by events beyond their control, only to be reunited many years later as adults. Meeting as adults, their love is tested: Will they be able to continue their relationship or would it be just a crush from long ago?

Go Soo ("Marry a Millionaire," "Green Rose," "When a Man Loves A Woman") plays Kang Jin-cha, a son whose mother is pushed around by others and whose father abandoned him in his early years. He grows up to be tough, yet intelligent, and driven to overcome any obstacles in his path.

Beaten down by society, Kang Jin has shielded his heart to protect himself. Then he meets Han Ji-wan, played by Han Ye-seul ("Tazza," "Couple or Trouble," "Forbidden Love," "Miss Gold Digger"), the only daughter of a well-known family in the village. She is overshadowed by her brother, who excels in everything and is the hope for the family.

When Kang Jin's pendant — the only thing left to connect him to his father — accidentally falls into the water, Ji-wan jumps in to retrieve it. Her brother, Ji Yong, follows her into the water trying to save her but has a heart attack and drowns. Her family is devastated and moves away from the village, separating Ji-wan and Kang Jin. About a decade later, they accidentally meet once again.
